Upim

HTWC is specialized in Migrating IMS DLI workloads onto popular RDBMS environments achieving major cost, performance and compatibility improvements, as well as availing of a greater pool of qualified experts. Each of these drivers were behind the decision of our client UPIM to engage HTWC and our global services partner Accenture, in the migration of its key application from its legacy IMS and CICS environments onto the open UNIX environment and DB2 database.

Challenge
Re-hosting of z/OS application running with:

  • IBM IMS CICS DB/DC
• DB2
  • IBM Cobol and Assembler
  • VSAM Datasets

Solution

  • Migrate to HP-UX using the XFRAME Enterprise edition
  • Conversion of all application to COBOL Unix

Customer Benefits

  • Immediate costs reduction

  • Improved availability and scalability
  • Improvement of the programmer’s productivity (50%)

City of Montpellier

The batch environment is enormously important for the delivery of mission critical business applications. Trends show that there is more focus on the further development of online applications – migration, replacement or re-writes are all options, thus leaving batch to keep alive the costly mainframe environment. HTWC's partner for the French market TELEBIG, announced the Migration of the remaining 15 critical batch applications from IBM z/OS to Windows and SQL server through the use of the HTWC XFRAME suite for the city of Montpellier, thus enabling the decommissioning of the Mainframe

Challenge

  • Online and Batch applications, in separate environments. Need to consolidate
  • Need to retain and indeed further develop legacy Batch applications

Solution

  • Migrate all COBOL Batch applications, JCLs, Scheduler, Print manager onto Windows Server
  • Migrate DB2 Database and data onto SQL server

Customer Benefits

  • Great license and maintenance savings
  • More agile development environment
  • Greater system efficiency

Marposs

Marposs is a global manufacturer of precision metrology equipment and tools, used for improving manufacturing performances and agility, whist reducing manufacturing costs.

With 22 subsidiaries and a partner network covering an additional 10 regions, key to the success of Marposs is not only the high quality of products, but also a very lean yet highly available manufacture to order (MTO) operation. At the heart of this operation is a carefully customized Copics' MRP application, consisting of production, inventory and logistics' modules as well as peripheral administration modules. An integral part of their MTO operation, yet operating in a different IT environment, is the CAD/CAM application.

Over the course of several years, Marposs has examined possibilities to achieve greater integration of the CAD/CAM environment, to reduce overall IT infrastructure costs.
In 2009 a re-hosting project was abandoned as it became clear that the system performance diminished to unacceptable levels, in some cases up-to 100 times worse than previously. Upon analysis, it was determined that this could be traced back to the inability of the migration tools to orchestrate the highly customized MRP application with its new environment.

Banco Popolare

SGS Banco Popolare achieves platform modernization through application migration onto Windows 2008 R2 and SQL server

Top Italian bank, part of a major international banking group, embarks on a major program to migrate mainframe hosted applications onto Windows 2008 R2 and SQL, whereby legacy CICS and HTWC's XCICS are seamlessly synchronized to enable carefully scaled rollout.

Executive Summary

As part of a major MIPS reduction and hence operational savings' plan, Banco Popolare's objective is to migrate its mission critical banking applications from the Mainframe onto the more cost effective Windows environment, through the integration of the HTWC middleware, XFRAME and employing the migration services of HTWC and Microsoft Systems' Integrator, Add Value.

The first of a series of projects was completed within 5 months. Banco Popolare achieved a very attractive ROI with a short payback period, whilst greatly improving their technical performance and agility.
