ICON - Application Object Mining is a software discovery product which allow organizations to automatically gather and analyze data about legacy applications. ICON entails powerful automatic procedures designed to drill down into applications, and provide application transparency needed as a pre-requisite for drafting application strategies such as Replace, Retire, Re-engineer, Retain or Re-Host. Also ICON enables users to estimate software complexity, and evaluate the Application. Go to ICON page

Understanding the big picture is a key pre-requisite in achieving the objectives of each step of the way.
We at HTWC are pioneers in the modernization of Legacy applications and platforms, not for the sake of modernization per say, but for the creation of an environment fully equipped for the implementation of a competitive IT strategy.
We customize our projects not around what we want to sell you, but what you need in order to achieve the desired levels of agility within your IT.
Mainframe MIPS and Costs are on the rise
It is predicted that many Mainframe shops are facing upwards of 30% annual cost increases in the coming years due to increases in MIPS consumption. Together with HTWC and its assessment tools, organizations can fine tune their environments to address this, preventing costs from spiraling whilst discovering areas where costs can be reduced. All this without actually engaging in full scale project activities.
Since the 1980s, HTWC has been addressing many technical and commercial challenges of client organizations. The projects addressed have been large and small, and as testimony to our success, much of our clientele is repeat business, clients looking to iteratively address unnecessary costs without rolling out into full scale re-platforming projects.
Mainframe MIPS and Costs are on the rise
The HTWC consulting arm, guides client shops through the murky waters of complex environments and hidden costs. Our consultants are equipped with the tools to shine a light through the Mainframe environment, identifying excess, surplus and over complex artifacts.
Our approach entails system fine tuning and where appropriate, the offloading of workload onto a fully integrated and compatible Mainframe emulator
In several of our ongoing success cases, we have created a cost effective Mainframe emulation in an open environment, fully integrated with the legacy Mainframe. Due to the scalability, workload can be easily migrated as and when the need arises, all the while remaining completely compatible with the entire legacy environment. The corresponding power usage costs equate to about 20% of those on the Mainframe.
Non intrusive, immediate value add
At the very least, we provide a comprehensive documentation of the environment, and a conceptual roadmap for the shedding of unnecessary costs. Organizations will have a clear insight into exactly what is ticking within their Mainframes and how they can at their own pace and scale, address the threat of spiraling costs, with a view to reducing costs over time.

At HTWC we recognize that modernization main drivers are of a strategic IT nature, with major financial benefits. Our experience shows, the most successful modernization approaches have included the shifting of IT budget from retaining status quo, to investing in state of the art technologies, designed to achieve competitive advantage. Cumulative causation is the term we refer to, indicating success breeds more success, and so on. Key to this is a plan.
As specialists, we are in a position to provide our clients with ROI forecasts for their modernization roadmap be it in one or many projects, using amortization periods selected by each client.
Our standard ROI Forecast dashboard reflects a number of key performance financial ratios based upon our initial research and analysis of current environments.
We generate monthly cashflows over the chosen amortization period consisting of savings, deducting operational and capital costs.
Internal Rate of Return, ROI (based upon Net Savings NPV) and Payback periods are just some of the metrics obtained. Our clients use this information as part of their planning for future investments in strategic IT projects.
Following is a Sample ROI forecast we conducted for one of our clients, based upon which the decision to Modernize could be taken quickly.
This can be split into several projects over one time period within which a modernization program will be amortized.
The dashboard shows a projected monthly cash flow over a the amortization period selected by the partner. Key ratios like IRR, ROI, and the NPV are calculated, to give a holistic perspective of the project in question.
Additionally, alternatives for applications are compared relatively, so is clearly understood, the benefits of maximizing the use of own, amortized IT assets far outweighs their replacement or recreation.
Like all forecasts, the more accurate the input data we have, the more accurate the forecast. To read more on our Analysis of current systems, please read more on Application OBJECT Mining or our ICON product.

CON is a suite of integrated tools and methodologies designed for the "bottom up" and "top down" assessments of legacy applications.
ICON is an application which conducts powerful automatic code analysis, to determine application structures and inventories, database and file inventory, to estimate software complexity, and to correct or modify software elements with new generation editors.
ICON parses applications and stores the information in an easy to access SQL Repository using Oracle, MySQL or MS Access. The business intelligence layer provides a holstic set of KPIs and reports, enabling users to conduct detailed application assessments.
The applications scans the software items (i.e. program, copybooks, JCL, etc.) and then stores the information in the ICON repository.
In essence, ICON is divided into three main modules:
1. The settings module is a user friendly interface which enables the setting of customization parameters, thus increasing the relevance of the measurements to be carried out. Also the user and batch commands editors, can be set up. Examples of parameters set, deal with the company and sector which the IT organization.
2. The building module initially creates an inventory repository of all applications, which are then individually read and analyzed, creating a repository of relevant object data.
Such data includes; field definitions, Instructions, Interdependencies, missing objects, redundant objects, syntax errors and indeed the complexity of the software.
The on board Parser, updates the respository as changes occur. This also entails troubleshooting facilities, enabling the user to analyse and address any errors detected in the software for example, the identification of missing objects.
3. The browsing module enables the client to view and analyze the data collected. The module enables analysis at several different levels of granularity from high level graphical illustrations, through to in depth detailed analysis of individual code objects.
With an exhaustive set of GUI controls users navigate the software and/or perform a complex research and an analysis on the code.

ICON runs in a client/server architecture on Windows, Linux and UNIX.
